Palisades Zoysia

Palisades Zoysia is a medium to coarse textured turf noted for its shade tolerance and comparably low water requirements. It is a high-density turf that is especially suitable for home lawns palisades is known to be a “friendly” grass due to its impressive establishment rate. It has proven itself to be an excellent choice for low-maintenance landscapes. Due to its low light requirements, it has become useful when there is a need to address shady areas in the landscape.

Watering to avoid dry-out, newly planted Palisades Zoysia should be watered daily and soaked thoroughly to a depth of 3” for the first two weeks. For the next two weeks, continue to water daily but reduce the amount of water. Once established, watering needs will very based upon the type of soil present. It is always best to mimic the environment by watering heavier every few days rather than watering lightly every day. For sandier soils, ¾” per watering will saturate the soil. For heavier clay soils, water up to 2” at a time to achieve saturation. For this reason, heavier soils should be watered heavily but less frequently (every 3-4 days) and sandy soils will need less water but more Frequency (every 2-3 Days). Once it is established, Palisades is considered drought tolerant and watering should be reduced to every other day providing 1.5 to 2” of water a week.

Mowing an established Palisades Zoysia lawn should be mowed every week during the Growing season. When maintained as a golf course fairway or sports field, Palisades will require approximately two weekly mowing with a reel mower-at heights ranging from ½ to 7/8 inches.

Fertility and Pesticide Recommendations can vary by grass variety, and micro environmental influences such as shade, drought, soil conditions and irrigation. Micro-nutrients can play a great role in green up.

Apply pre-emergent weed control around March 1, May 1, and Oct 1.

Post – emergent weed control should be localized to issues and only when temperatures are conductive.

Monitor and treat for insects Through Summer months.

Apply preventive fungicide in Fall and Spring when soil temperatures are below 65-75 degrees

Lime according to soil test conditions

Color Medium to dark green
